Mikayla Jones, daughter of Glenn and Amy Jones of Paxton, was recently awarded the Prospect Chapter 367 Order of the Eastern Star Scholarship. Currently administered by the PBL Education Foundation, the $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of PBL High School and is based on character, citizenship, dedication, integrity, service to school and community, and academic achievement.
While attending PBL High School, Jones was a Straight A Honor Roll Student and held offices in FFA and Student Council all four years. She was Vice-President of the National Honor Society her senior year and 2018 Homecoming Queen, as well as being involved in Math Team, Bridge Team, and Panther Pals. Jones was also a four-year member of the marching band (drum major both junior and senior years), jazz band, pep band and concert band.
Jones’ community service is very extensive and varied as well. She’s volunteered time to help with the PBL Blood Drive, FFA parent-teacher cookouts, FFA Ludlow Coop Cookout, Agriculture Day Camp and the WPXN Agriculture Radio Auction. She is also a volunteer pianist for the St. John’s Lutheran Church & School, helps with Vacation Bible School, as well as having attended the week-long Mississippi Delta Service Trip.
Jones has earned many major awards and accomplishments over the last four years: 2018 State Scholar; 2018 Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship Recipient; 2018 Illinois FFA State Degree Recipient; 2018 Gold Rated Top FFA Chapter President; 2018 WYXY Classic FFA All Star, just to name a few.
Jones will be attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign majoring in Animal Science on a pre-medical track.
