The PBL Education Foundation recently hosted their annual event to honor the seven students chosen this year as Students of the Month. Foundation trustee Margo Jones welcomed the guests and their families and introduced the other members of the board of trustees who were in attendance. She also emphasized the Foundation’s debt of gratitude to trustee Scott Allen and True Value for sponsoring the program this year.
This year’s event was a Mexican Fiesta fajita and taco bar at the Arcade Restaurant. Following the meal, Jones reviewed how students are chosen for this honor, read each teacher’s nominating statement, as well as giving a summary of their other school and community activities, and then each student was given a certificate for their honor.
The evening ended with a drawing for the big prize. Logan Knuth was the winner of a 128 GB 9.7″ iPad. All of the monthly winners received $25 in Paxton Chamber Bucks during the month in which they were selected.
Administered by the Foundation for the last seven years, the Student of the Month award has been given a much broader range than it held previously. The honor is now open to all high school grade levels and focuses on a recognition of students who demonstrate the district mission of “excellence through rigor, relevance and relationships.” Teachers are free to nominate students who have made a difference in any number of ways: leadership in the classroom, dramatic academic improvement, exceptional acts of kindness or demonstrations of strong character.
