Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School’s student of the month for November is sophomore Emily Balnius, daughter of Nicole O’Dell of Paxton.
Balnius was nominated for the award by vocal music instructor Miranda Rowland. “Emily has been working hard not only on choreography for the junior high
show choir, but she has also been selected as the dance captain for the high school show choir,” Rowland said. “Emily’s leadership and dedication to these two ensembles continues to grow, and I look forward to watching Emily develop into a fine educator. She is always asking questions and always willing to help her peers. It’s great to be able to work with Emily.”
Balnius’ school activities are focused on music. Besides being a member of chorus and band, she is active in show choir and Madrigals. She is the choreographer for the junior high show choir and is a color guard captain. Outside of school, Balnius is involved with her church’s youth group and with dance.
Although only a sophomore, Balnius is specific about her future goals, and as one can imagine, her plans involve music. She wants to go to college to major in performing arts/theater and minor in music education.
Balnius made a point of thanking Rowland, adding that “she’s been a huge inspiration and has given me many opportunities.”
