The January Student of the Month at PBL High School is Hannah Hein, daughter of Robert and Alyce Hein of rural Rankin. The sophomore was nominated by her English teacher, Jason Peterson.
Peterson wrote, “ Despite the unfortunate fact that finals had to be taken after winter break this year, Hannah didn’t complain or give up. She studied very hard for the final exam for my class and scored 96% on it, when not many other students scored A’s.
“Hannah has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty on her schoolwork all year long. One of my assignments was for students to create a fake Facebook page for one of the Greek Olympians. Her page was outstanding, going way above the minimum requirements and showing a lot of creativity. It stood alone among the 80 or so pages I received as the most thoughtful, thorough, and creative.
“Lastly, Hannah’s hard work isn’t merely for the grade. She shows a genuine passion for learning. She recently told me in an e-mail how much she enjoys learning about the Greek gods. I don’t get e-mails like that very often.”
Hannah devotes most of her time to schoolwork. In addition, she plays the piano and loves to read. Describing herself, she said, “I’m driven and persistent. My goal is to achieve well throughout my high school career.”
