Diamond Jamison, the daughter of Jenny Jamison of Paxton, has been chosen as the December Student of the Month at PBL H. S.
Art teacher Emily Valencia in her nomination said that it has been a pleasure to work with Diamond these past four years. Valencia wrote, “This year Diamond is in 2 art classes. Because of other required courses, her Art III class is an independent study, which requires a great deal of self-motivation and determination.”
In a classroom setting, Valencia admires Diamond’s willingness to take initiative in class: “Diamond never needs prompting to work; she is consistently on task, and takes upon herself projects that are challenging, so she can grow as a student and artist. She is always willing to take projects home if necessary and continuously strives for her best. Not only has she shown great success in my classes, but she also has all As and Bs this school year, while working part-time.”
Valencia continued, “What I love most about Diamond is her caring personality. She is a friend to all, and always willing to help another student, or stand up for someone if she sees them being treated unfairly.”
Diamond was a member of art league and a track participant for 3 years of her high school career. She was also a basketball manager. Outside of school, she was a 4-H member. She has had to give up her extracurricular activities because she is now working evenings and weekends as a sales associate at Bergner’s.
Diamond plans to start her college education at Parkland and then transfer to a 4-year school. She wants to become an occupational therapist and have an art career as well.
When asked if there was anything else she would like to say, Diamond noted how much she liked Miss Valencia and wanted to thank her for the nomination.
