The PBL High School March student of the month is Dalton Busboom, the son of Holly and Derek Busboom of rural Ludlow.
Busboom was nominated by special education teacher Steve Waugh who wrote, “Dalton is probably the nicest and most caring kid I have ever met. He has selflessly switched from his guided study to the one in my room in order to help two struggling students These two students have attention and behavioral issues, and Dalton is able to be patient and caring enough to assist them. This is an action that shows empathy and a strong willingness to help others. As a very intelligent student, carrying a full load in all the high level courses, he could certainly use the guided study for his own work, especially since he is also a 3-sport athlete who is very involved in other organizations. When asked by students when he does his own work, Dalton said that he just does his at home after practice.” Waugh added, “Not only does he help these two students, he also assists any other kids who need help on work during my guided study.”
The three sports that Busboom participates in are football, basketball, and baseball. He is also a member of the math team and FFA. Outside of school, he is active in 4-H, the Swim Team and Jr. Legion Baseball.
Busboom also does volunteer work. Besides tutoring in school, he coaches Park District Basketball and Flag Football.
As a freshman, Busboom’s future plans have not been finalized, but he knows he wants to go to college, and since his main interests are math and science, he is looking at various engineering fields.
