Garret Waterstradt, son of Sandy Burklund and Mike Waterstradt, both of Paxton, was awarded the Gene and Lorraine Noble Memorial Scholarship at the June 3rd Senior Awards Night.
Waterstradt will attend the University of Illinois this fall and major in kinesiology/pre-med. He is planning a career as a sports medicine physician.
During his high school career, Waterstradt was very active in music, participating in both chorus and band organizations, including concert band, marching band, jazz band, chorus, Show Choir, and madrigals. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
Outside of school, Waterstradt was a highly successful tumbling and trampoline gymnast. He has been on national teams since 2008 and has won two gold medals at the international level.
Waterstradt has earned many academic recognitions. He is one of the ten PBL valedictorians this year, and an Illinois State Scholar. He is also a University of Illinois James Scholar and a Chancellor’s Scholar.
